Uttoxeter C.C. v Brailsford (Home)

Uttoxeter v Brailsford (Home)  - Match Sponsored by M & I Bailey.

The last game of the season saw Uttoxeter welcoming the league champions to the racecourse ground. Even with the league all done and dusted the fixture produced one of the games of the season with the champions just edging a close draw.

Captain Walmsley won the toss and asked the away team to bat on a slightly tricky looking wicket and it looked to be a good decision as the away side struggled to really get going. Despite the runs not coming freely the wickets weren’t tumbling.

The first wicket fell to Adam Cottier after a great, slightly theatrical catch at cover from Skelham. Cottier was the best bowler on show taking a 3-27 off his 9 overs. Despite Uttoxeters early pressure and with the pitch starting to dry up the impressive looking Thurlow started to accelerate and raced to a 100 with some classic strokes and a monster 6 or two.

The bowlers will feel slightly unlucky not to have picked up a few more wickets with the ball moving all over the place and in some cases just too much. The away side finished with a total of 227.

Uttoxeter CC v Nutbrook (Home)

Uttoxeters' penultimate home game had very much the feel of an end of season encounter with both sides having very little left to play for, and it ultimately showed as a poor batting performance cost the home side as they slipped to defeat.

Wickets fell at regular intervals once Rob Birch was bowled early doors, the only real highlight being an solid 22 from top scorer Ian Bailey and a very mature and well-constructed 17 not out from Marcus Mellor who was the only batsman to show any real grit.

The home side were bowled out for 105 which was never going to be enough on a pretty flat batting wicket.

The bowling was controlled and much better than the batting but with so few runs to defend it was never going to be enough. Adam Cottier picked up another wicket as he looks to secure the seasons bowling averages and young debutant Chris James picked up his 1st wicket for the senior  sides. Chirs performance was the highlight of the day as Uttoxeter now have some real young talent coming through from the junior sides.

Uttoxeter have 2 games both over the weekend and will still be looking to finish strongly and secure the highest place possible in the league.

The defeat completed a very bad weekend for the Racecourse club with the 2nd teams relegation confirmed.

Uttoxeter CC v Derby Congs (Home)

Match Sponsored by – Howsons Charted Accountants.

Uttoxeter had yet another stutter with an untimely defeat to Derby Congs. The defeat Uttoxeters’ 2nd in 2 weeks was another disappointment in what has been an up and down campaign.

Losing the toss the home side were asked to bat on what looked like a reasonable wicket. The home side made a steady start with James Burton looking in good form and Dave Hunt supporting him at the other end.

Uttoxeter C.C. v Barton (Home )

Match Sponsored by – Independent Supplies ( Belting, Rollers, Clothing & Signs )

Uttoxeter completed a good victory over a strong Barton side with a very good all round team performance.

Captain Walmsley won the toss and elected to field first on what he hoped would be a lively wicket after the week of rain.

The wicket didn’t disappoint and the bowlers got the side off to a good start severely restricting the Barton scoring rate. Skelham (1-47) was the 1st to strike, bowling a ball which just nipped away and caught the edge of Melidoni’s bat, Cottier the produce some acrobatics in the slips to take an excellent low one handed catch low to his right.

Uttoxeter C.C. v Castle Donnington (Away)

The Uttoxeter 1st team got back their season back on track with a big winning draw against Castle Donnington.

On a hot and humid day the Uttoxeter captain lost the toss and was very surprisingly asked to have a bat first.

Rob Birch and Sean Coates got the side off to a good start before Coates was bowled. Pete Atwell filling in at number 3 for the absent Tony Hayes looked impressive on his way to 14 before he edged to the keeper.

Rob Birch was back to his old self after his failure last week, notching up a steady 29 before lobbing a catch back to the bowler. The 73 run start the top 3 had given the away team provided a great platform for the middle order to build a dominant total.

Uttoxeter CC v Brailsford (away)

Uttoxeter suffered a resounded defeat to fellow promotions chasers Brailsford in what was their worst performance of the year.

Captain Walmsley lost the toss and was surprisingly asked to have a bat on what looked to be a very batsman friendly wicket.

The innings got off to a terrible start and never really got any better.

Rob Birch was the first man to go, he was caught at square leg for his only 0 of the season.

Uttoxeter CC 1st XI vs Nutbrook

Uttoxeter got their promotion chase back on track with a responding win against Nutbrook.

Playing at Nutbrook for the first time the game couldn’t have got off to a worse start for Uttoxeter with captain Walmsley losing the toss and seeing his side sent into bat and having both openers back inside the pavilion within the 1st 3 overs with only 5 runs on the board.

This however gave the two of the senior members of the side a chance to rebuild, Ian Bailey was in no mood to do this slowly. He smashed his way to a magnificent 96. At no point was he ever in trouble and he will feel slightly aggrieved by the way he cheaply gave his wicket away! Lobbing a catch to deep mid on trying to bring up his first ton of the year in style.

At the other end Tony Hayes was playing a more patient innings and just fed bailey who was making light work of the Nutbrook attack. The pair put on 150 for the 2nd wicket in very quick time and when Hayes was dismissed Uttoxeter had a great chance to build a commanding 1st innings score.
